Children's Fish Casserole

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
  • Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions.
  • Cut the fish into cubes approximately 3 cm in size.
  • Wash, peel, and slice the spring onions into thin rings.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan and stir in the flour.
  • Gradually add milk while stirring continuously until the sauce thickens. Let the sauce simmer gently for a few minutes.
  • Let the sauce cool slightly, separate the eggs, and stir in the egg yolks.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  • Fold in the fish, cooked macaroni, spring onions, and chopped garlic.
  • Whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form and carefully fold them into the mixture.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased ovenproof dish, smooth the top, and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
  • Bake the casserole in the middle of the oven for 40-50 minutes.
  • Serve with roasted potato wedges, children's favorite vegetable sticks, and either aioli or ketchup.
