Method

Habanero powder can be reduced or omitted if you dislike spicy sauce.
Marinate the mackerel fillets in the BBQ sauce for about 15 minutes.
Grate the carrots using a grater. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.
You can use any type of bread you like; it doesn't have to be focaccia. Sourdough or baguette are great options. Cut the bread in half. Alternatively, you can make four sandwiches from slices of bread.
Grill or cook the marinated mackerel with the skin on, preferably until the skin becomes crispy. Brush with a little extra marinade during grilling/cooking if needed.
Feel free to give the bread a quick toast on the grill or in a pan as well.
Place the fish and vegetables inside the sandwich and enjoy a taste of Japan.
