Nut Fillet Herring

It's okay to bend the rules a little when making homemade herring. In this recipe, we base it on jarred seasoned herring and add nuts, apple, and mint to give it a new flavor. All our recipes are sourced from godfisk.no

Ingredients

Method

  • Taste the herring fillets and soak them in water or milk for a couple of hours if they are too salty.
  • Bring water and sugar to a boil, then cool and add vinegar. Place the herring fillets in the vinegar brine and leave overnight in the refrigerator.
  • Pat the herring fillets dry and cut into pieces.
  • Cut the apple into cubes and coarsely chop the hazelnuts.
  • Whip the heavy cream to a soft peak and mix with mayonnaise, chives, and mint.
  • Fold in the apple pieces and hazelnuts, then gently mix in the herring pieces.
  • Place the mixture in a jar or container and secure with a lid.
  • The herring should marinate for a day in the refrigerator before serving.
  • The herring is keeps well in the refrigerator for about 1 week.
