Cod with Chinese Five-Spice

This recipe is inspired by Chinese cuisine and will truly give you the feeling of being in a Chinese kitchen. Here, cod is stir-fried with rich flavors and served with rice. All our recipes are inspired by godfisk.no

Method

  • Cut the cod into finger-length pieces and sprinkle with cornstarch, salt, and Chinese five-spice powder.
  • Heat up vegetable oil in a wok until just smoking.
  • Add half of the fish pieces and fry for about 1 minute on each side.
  • Transfer the pieces onto a paper towel, and fry the remaining fish in the same way.
  • Keep the fish warm.

Sauce

  • Finely chop the garlic and ginger, and cut the spring onions into 1 cm pieces.
  • Wipe out the wok, add a little vegetable oil, and stir-fry the garlic, ginger, and spring onions for 2 minutes.
  • Add sherry and soy sauce, and simmer everything for 3 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat and add Chinese five-spice powder.
  • Thicken the sauce with cornstarch dissolved in cold water, and bring to a boil. You may not need all the thickening; adjust as needed.
  • Serve the cod with the sauce and jasmine rice. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
