Salad with Spicy Warm Herring

  • Cut the herring fillet into pieces.
  • Clean the chili and slice into thin rings, finely chop the garlic.
  • Mix oil, paprika, curry, sugar, grated ginger, garlic, and chili. Toss the herring pieces well in the mixture.
  • Toast pine nuts until golden in a dry skillet and set aside.
  • Add the herring mixture to the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes over medium heat.
  • Season with red wine vinegar, soy sauce, and salt if desired.
  • Tear the salad and mint leaves, and place the warm herring mixture and pine nuts on top.
  • Serve the salad while still warm, with crusty bread on the side.
